Dictionary of psychology, 2nd ed.: Huntingtons disease is an inherited neurological disease, characterized by progressive cognitive and muscular deterioration. In the later stages you have severe alterations in personality. Patients show deficits in such cognitive areas as attention, retrieval, problem solving, and visuoperceptual functions. Interestingly, the memory dysfunction are limited largely to recall of material, recognition ability is often unaffected. It is caused by a dominant gene and anyone carrying it will eventually develop the disease. Also called Huntingtons Chorea.
