Be, I don't remember exactly but it was pretty far along by the time it had gotten to the blood-in-urine stage.

He and my mom had a trip to France planned, and he postponed telling her and getting surgery, etc, till after they got back because he didn't want to ruin it for her. (She totally never deserved him, but that's a whole other story.

He had had bladder cancer several years previous, and surgery took care of it, but then it came back and eventually ended up in his colon and lungs as well.
I don't know what shape your dad is in with his mental health, but mine was worn down by 48 years of hell with my mother and just quit when he got the dx. He was gone very quickly afterward -- less than 8 weeks.
Both of you are in my thoughts.
