Electronics such as your phone or tablet will make it difficult to fall asleep because of the light they admit, so I try and stay away from them before I know I'm about to go to bed. At least that's my issue. Alcohol can help with falling asleep, but having a deep and restful sleep...it messes that up. Taking my meds at the same time every night and actually being in the bed has trained me to be able to fall asleep faster. This is just what I've learned over the years.
