Hi, this, to me, sounds like Dissociative Identity Disorder. It was previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder. I myself have DID, and it is a pretty scary thing to live with! There are separate identities that are formed through trauma. They're called Alters.
Now, I'm not going to tell you 100% what I think your friend has, because I am not a professional, but in my experience, living with DID and Schizophrenia, it sounds more like something that would happen because I have DID.
What you can do is try to be open and accepting of whatever Katie is experiencing, because it's probably really stressful and horrible for her. I like when people treat my alters as other people, and differentiating us because we can be very different.
Katie might not like that, though. You just need to communicate with her, what she would like, etc. I would suggest maybe you should tell her to look up Dissociative Identity Disorder, or perhaps bring it up with her therapist.
