I'll never forget this; I was homeless in Dallas. I was downtown on my 3rd bus trying to get to a shelter I'd been referred to, when the heat got to me, I nearly fainted and probably looked pretty out of it. All I'd really heard about Dallas was how uppity and snooty the people were. So when a woman with the right clothes and big hair the works stopped and offered my her water bottle and insisted I take it it was a shock. It really meant so much to me because when you're homeless most people don't make eye contact, they don't even see you they just look though you so this simple act of kindness and caring really touched me.
