Even now when I'm on a very limited income, I tend to shop impulsively. The only thing that stops me, is keeping very little money in my main chequing account - just enough to cover my basic expenses, so I can't on-line shop from it, and then I have another account for discretionary expenses - but that includes food, so I can't really impulse shop too much.
I feel like a total loser for not being able to manage my money better at 47.

I am sorry that you have struggled like that. It is good that you found a way to manage your finances. I need to to start doing something like that.
