The one thing I do believe is that the ceilings should be white....maybe not pure white, I toned down the white my my ceilings, but defiitely a white ceiling....it makes the room feel larger....opens it up.

I have tray ceilings in several rooms & the part that is parallel to the walls have the same colour as the walls, bit the parts that are the ceiling are white. I used pure white in the closets to lighten them up.

I also purchased the medallions that go around the ceiling lights & am painting them shades of the wall colour & also keeping the white in them....just to add a bit of interest but still keeping the white ceilings.
