I do think you should try medication for the experience. You never know until you try.
If you're concerned about nutrients being the problem, you can always ask for a blood test before you start any medication. They'll look at your vitamin levels, vitamin D in particular. (Low vitamin D is associated with depression.) But of course, it's certainly possible you could have a vitamin D deficiency (for example) *and* have a mood disorder.
