Listening to and singing along with music is very helpful to me when I'm manic or paranoid. It gives my mind something to focus on and I really get into it. Every song seems it was written about or for me. I like listening to all kind of music. Classical, opera, alternative, metal, grunge, pop, country, techno, folk, and even started loving rap during my last manic episode. Pumped up Kicks by foster the people is a go-to favorite of mine when manic.

When I'm really depressed, I even lose my love for music. I just don't care about anything. During mild depressions I find that I prefer non-happy music too. I listen to things like nirvana, pearl jam, counting crows, tesla, blind Mellon, candlebox.....nothing too heavy but not happy/sappy either.
