There was recently a thread about what song reminds people of their T. But what about those random song (or movie) references that come up during session?
So today, my marriage counselor was making this rather complex comparison of driving when it's windy out, and how he can't see the wind, but he knows it's there, so he has to compensate for it. (He was comparing that to stuff from my past, like childhood, that's affecting me now, so I have to be aware of it in my relationships.) In summing that up, he was like, "So, remember, it's like the wind."
Which made me think of the song "She's Like the Wind" by Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing. So of course I had to mention that (I mentioned movie, too). MC, laughing, was like, "So tonight, I'll have to tell my wife that I made one of my patients think of 'Dirty Dancing.'" (He, uh, does not resemble Patrick Swayze.) I was like, "The song, not the movie!" He started to say how his wife would react (making fun of him), but then said his teen daughter would get there first. I was like, "I'm glad I can give your family some laughs!" It lightened up a kind of heavier session.
