The difference is whether the voice is OUT LOUD or not. An auditory hallucination will be HEARD as if by the ear, won't it? I hear voices all the time but they are not actual auditory hallucinations because they are inside of me and not an external phenomenon. Sure, they are at times loud enough and 'real' enough to be separate from my own mind, but they are not, strictly speaking, "auditory". (Unless I'm wrong about the definition/distinction but I don't think so?)

That does NOT mean they are "intrusive thoughts" -- I'm not exactly sure what the definition is for THAT -- it just means they are NOT auditory hallucinations.
