There's a difference in offering one's advice and couching it as actual advice, versus telling other people directly what they need to do. Advice should always be couched in language that expresses it is your opinion only (hopefully based your actual experiences, not just something you read online).
Here's a simple example:
"Wow, I can't believe you're taking medication XYZ. That stuff will kill you. You should get off of it immediately!"
vs.
"I was taking XYZ medication for some time. I didn't find it all that helpful, and the side effects for me were really bad."
Sometimes we have members offering closer to the first example, rather than the second.
Yes, people should clearly explain what a link is going to when they post something to chat, just as they would do in the forums. In the forums, the forum software can convert a link into a video to give you an idea, too, of what it is before you click on it; unfortunately the chat software can't do that.
So please, if you're posting links in chat, make sure your fellow members know what they are linking to (music, video, etc.).
