Some bipolars do well on a primal/paleo or even a ketogenic diet. Not the popular idea of Atkins-type ketogenic diet with all the bacon and sausage and SPAM you can eat, but a real ketogenic diet... unprocessed meat, birds (poultry), fish, eggs, leaves (vegetables), some fruit (mainly berries), butter, oils, even the fat from the meat and full fat dairy. The meat should be as close to natural as possible, the fish wild caught. No legumes or grains. It's highly recommended for epileptics. For some reason it affects brain chemistry positively. I am not following it now for my own reasons, but it's worth a try, though it can take 6 weeks or so to start to adapt to it.
