Iamchicken... i can understand that you feel as this 16 yr olds babysitter you need to help her. the line in the sand is that if you are not this girls parent you dont have any legal rights to get this girl help. only her parents or court appointed guardian can help this girl...
that said as her babysitter in some states that means you are a mandated reporter. this means in some states \ locations if a babysitter has suspicions or concerns that a child that they are taking care of or have taken care of is being abused or otherwise need mental or physical health services the babysitter must contact the police or child protective services. then the police and child protective services will investigate to see if this child does need any special mental, physical or educational services, then see that the child receives those services.
now I have a thought... here in the USA 16 yr olds dont usually have a babysitter. they are usually the ones doing the babysitting of younger children in their neighborhoods. since you say you are this 16 yr olds babysitter her parents had to have hired you to baby sit this teen ager. if her parents or guardian have hired you to baby sit a 16 yr old then they are already well aware that she needs special services and is most likely either getting it or in the process of getting the special services that she needs.
because you are not family, you are the baby sitter it may be that due to confidentiality laws the family and this teen can not tell you what services / help, mental and physical health treatment that is probably already going on.
lets face it what 16 yr old is going to tell their babysitter that they are taking speech and language classes the equivelent of kindergarten grade level to learn how to speak english. what 16 yr old is going to tell their friends and baby sitters that they are seeing in teen age language "a shrink"....
not to mention it must be very humiliating for this teen ager to know her parents hired a babysitter to watch her, spend time with her like a baby... its no wonder this teen ager would rather communicate by google then to tell a babysitter they are taking the equivelent of kindergarten speech\writing\reading class to learn english.
my suggestion is if you feel this is an emergency and that this 16 yr old isnt getting the services she needs as a babysitter /mandated reporter to contact the police and child protective services.
my other suggestion is talk with her parents, they are the ones that are legally able to get her the help she needs.
my other suggestion is that to let things be if you choose not to talk with the parents or contact legal services. my reason for saying this is that if you attempt to get this person help when you dont legally have permission to do so you can end up on therecieving end of legal problems. I would not want that to happen. you need to let those who are her parents take care of this.
