Candy, my job was just like that last week. My boss said to focus here and don't worry too much about this. So I did. Then I was in trouble for not doing the other thing, which I had been told was not the priority. It's frustrating. I wanted to hide under my desk. I told myself that it was all my fault and I can't do anything right. Basically, I was overwhelmed, especially since a project for school was also not going well at the same time. You do what you can, and learn from the interaction. Next time I bet you will try calling more people, since now you know that is the expectation.
