Spoke to my dad. I have never heard him sound so weak. Apparently he fell in the bathroom this morning. Mom got a neighbor to help get him up. I spoke to my sister and made a few suggestions that might help a bit. They probably need to get him a walker while he is recuperating. The doctors said it would take about two days for every one day he was in the hospital to feel back up to strength, so in the meantime he may need that physical support to help stabilize him when he's getting up and down and walking. She also said they are having trouble getting him to eat and drink enough which is probably one of the reasons he is so weak at this point. He kind of gags on straight water, so I suggested maybe some crystal light tea or lemonade; the taste would be more palatable but it is sugar-free so it won't mess up his system. As far as eating goes, I know my dad and he loves chocolate and ice cream. I suggested some Boost or Ensure maybe even made into a shake with some sugar-free ice cream as a start. That's what my brother-in-law and I resorted to with my sister when she couldn't get herself to eat. It was a start. Sis texted me back and apparently he liked those ideas so they are working on it. I think my sister is going to sleep at their house for a few nights until he has more strength back because Mom certainly can't handle getting Dad up and down on her own. Wish I could be down there helping.
