I know how you feel because exactly the same thing happened to me when I moved abroad! Getting immersed in a new culture has been awesome, but 5 years into this experience, I cannot bring myself to mingle with "the locals" because of my sense of humor. As you said it, I am more interested in "geeky" or political kind of humor but I feel that here people laugh more at other people (for example, I don't feel like I could get a kick out of a video of someone falling down the stairs).
But to answer your topic question, no it doesn't mean that you're a bad person. One of my best friends back home doesn't have much of a sense of humor but she's one of the most dependable and caring people I know.
