i dont like touching on it too much because of personal reasons...
but doesnt when integration happen, spontaneous or not.. a sense if knowing is there?
the alter hasnt disappeared but melded or absorbed into..?
so the feeling of missing shouldn't be there so much right..? maybe a missing of how things were, but not of him..?

like, i have read many times of alters going dormant... especially when they are not so much needed at the time...? but i dont think that is integration..?
maybe more like them sleeping a while... missing in action so to speak..
