DID wasnt an embarrassment for me because thats how I always was from very early childhood until I was integrated. it was just my normal. I only got embarrassed after I was integrated and looking back on all that went on. that said it was not a fun thing to deal with.

the wanting to tell people you have DID I never had that problem, my whole internal system was built on do not tell, do not tell people the secrets of what happened , do not tell.... at all costs. so telling others I have DID never entered into my or the others thoughts. we had the opposite problem of knowing it was ok to tell but never wanting to because thats how my system was comprised to hold the secrets and not tell at any cost. on the rare occasions when I did talk about it self harm and suicidal thoughts \actions happened.

that said I do know some that feel it is a problem where they want to tell others but others may not understand. for this they start out doing things like attending NAMI's in our own voice's classes. this is where people with mental illness talk with all kinds of people not just the mentally ill about having a mental illness and what that mental illness is and how it affects their life. NAMI is quite popular in the USA, most if not all cities in the USA now have a NAMI. maybe you can look up where your closest nami agency is if you are located in the USA.
