Yes ! You are absolutely right. In an anxious person such as myself (and apparently you), high levels of the stress hormone Cortisol are generated. One of the significant disadvantages of Cortisol is the retention of body fat.
Back in the day when things were "good" for me, I was exercising about 15 hours a week, and I mean intense weight lifting, martial arts, swimming, and hiking. But, I NEVER managed to lose all my belly fat. Why ? Anxiety and depression.
Just Google "Cortisol". It is a killer !

I definitely believe that if you can manage the anxiety and depression (there is no cure ... cure is an illusion), the weight will start dropping again.
