Yes, the diet thread is nice.
But also, what about using a food journal? Write down everything you eat and get the calories (e.g.,
CalorieKing - Diet and weight loss. Calorie Counter and more). Then you can write down your weight the next morning to see if you've gained/lost/neither. Also, try:

At least that's what I would do. Then you can see how many calories you need a day to maintain your weight:

So basically... as long as you don't exceed that # of calories, you should lose weight (in theory).
