Hi Trace,

I hope this finds you as well as can be.

Even though I tend to crave carbs, I feel much more energy on a low-carb diet.
I tend to favor the work/guidelines by Terry Wahls, M.D. She had initially researched diet/lifestyle for healing severe M.S. (Dr. Wahls' protocol healed herself. Great story) Her protocols focus on brain and mitochondrial health; yet, address overall health.

I particularly pay attention to the dietary part of her protocols. There are 3 levels of her dietary protocols. One is : The Wahls Diet. A second is: The Wahls' Paleo Diet. The third is: Wahls' Ketogenic Diet.

I feel best on the paleo or ketogenic diets. They are very different from one another. I had steadily lost 10-12lbs a month on the ketogenic level, without much exercise. Dr. Wahls explains how our brains need the extra fat in order to be healthy (and to have a chance to heal and function optimally. (People on high doses of Depakote may be at risk for liver issues on a ketogenic diet, FWIW.)

Dr. Wahls also outlines a few supplements she recommends for optimal mitochondrial health.

Her book outlines her dietary/supplement guidelines.
Terry Wahls MD | Defeating Progressive Multiple Sclerosis without Drugs | MS Recovery | Food As Medicine | The official website of Terry Wahls, MD, author and physician who has recovered from secondary progressive multiple sclerosis by using the Wahl

She has also done a TED Talk or two.

P.S. There are many myths/misunderstandings re: ketogenic diets. Dr. Wahls explains these.
