If I went to work picnic I'd stay there as long as I wanted. I don't see any need to rush home and be there before him.

Most certainly I see no need to actually eat together every single night especially if I have an option of having fun at a picnic.

Then he plays video loud but rather than telling him you are just closing the door. Why not tell him to turn it off or keep it quiet.
