My dad was diagnosed with brain cancer and sent home after surgery with expectation of 6 months. I wish they had been honest. We were all figuring on a regular Thanksgiving dinner as a last one... but at least one of the family members (SIL) noticed how quickly he healed from the surgery and made us all plan a thanksgiving dinner for two weeks later (this was June) He died June 30th of that year, 13 years ago. He didn't realize it wasn't November, though, and was thankful for the family get-together.

But I wish I had been told it might only be weeks.
