I've been twice, both times just for the 72 hour observation period. The first time was involuntary. Last time I chose to go to the ER and be admitted. I think this last time it was about $1500 but I was able to fill out paperwork afterward for financial hardship, and one of the bills for $1000 was reduced to $100.
