it is well documented that the olfactory sense (smell) is one of, if not THE most basic, profoundly affective sense. sadly, most of us are trained to not use it, to not notice smells, and to ignore the ones we do notice. aroma therapy is actually one way to change the brain chemistry; that's why we feel better.

personally, i like incense. it's brief, intense and smokey . but i have used many of the ones listed by the previous poster, they just don't affect me as strongly. what i have used are essential oils of cactus flowers, to which i respond very positively, perhaps because of my genetic affinity for the area in which they grow.

if you are interested in trying custom blends, let me just say: they are very sweet~! i like one of the blends called "Christ Scent". it is said to have been created to replicate the aroma of a visitation. at any rate, you can get these exquisite oils from only one place that i know of (i hope they are still in business), a church in Sedona, Arizona: phone - 1-888-453-6324.

thanks for reminding me of the benefits of olfactory therapy
