A understanding boss/manager really helps, I have lost/quit many jobs when I started behaving badly due to personal struggle. I had one boss in particular that I don't think he understood what was happening with me when I went off the rails (neither did I), but he thwarted a few of my attempts to go down the drain. I remember him coming to my house once and dragging my mattress off my bed and down the hallway with me on it when I quit my job and went home to isolate myself. I was so mad I couldn't see strait. I remember being back at work that same day (he insisted), doing my job and crying at the same time.

I hope you are able to have a good working relationship with your new manager, I've always found that support in the workplace is not common, but it sure is nice if you do get it.
