M has been in the mental health field as a supervised counselor for 20 years and has NEVER recognized that I am a person with a mental health issue. I never felt like it was something I needed to bring up since I have been stable for over 2 years now and we have never seen each other for more than a whole day at a time. If I had thought we were ever going to be in a real relationship with a future, perhaps I might have. I just find it funny (not haha) that he hasn't picked up on it. I did mention once about having issues with anxiety before though, not sure if it made an impact.
It does definitely seem surprising at first, but I have a relative in the mental health field who doesn't really understand me well despite regular contact. Of course my quiet demeanor and avoidance may be the main cause of that. But it definitely makes it seem like there's some sort of lack of personal empathy that is strange for someone in mental health.
