"wallowing in self-pity"
I think the duration matters like procrastination, and I say keep the self-pity. Since you might be wallowing in it, you could try to understand that by learning every aspect of it. Anything and everything could be making the connections for the understanding of the word, how have you learned it? Who did it come from? In what moment of your daily life, do you feel that? You could make suspects like the season, the time of the day, everything you know could be hints to navigate you to unpuzzle the make up of the word "self-pity." You are to keep it, so you need to drive it, deeper if you have to.
Questioning the question, question your assumption, your understanding of yourself.
I was alone in this long long depression years ago, I don't use the d-word anymore, I prefer regular language, a survival language. I don't know the others.
