Have you thought of keeping a light on and wearing a sleep mask? There are sleep masks that are formed so you can open your eyes while wearing them.

Also, try taking some magnesium calcium, vitamin D3 and vitamin K and see if that helps. Low magnesium levels lead to insomnia. You need to take type of magnesium that is absorbable so you don't end up with chronic diarrhea as magnesium is a laxative. The most absorbable is magnesium chloride. Magnesium citrate or malate are also good forms of magnesium. DON'T take magnesium oxide as it's so poorly absorbed that all it does is act as a colonoscopy prep ensuring you'll be trapped in the bathroom for the day.

Another thing to look into is high cortisol levels that prevent you from being able shut down. One supplement that lowers cortisol is Seriphos. You want to take it in the late afternoon when your cortisol levels are supposed to start falling so you can sleep.

The amino acid GABA is also calming as is the mineral lithium orotate--it's a mineral supplement. Both should help your mind calm down.
