So it turns out I do have raised prolactin from the Invega (duh - not getting my period since February kind of let me know but blood work has confirmed it). Since I will not go off of Invega, nor will I lower the dose, she is going to put me on bromocriptine to counteract the raised prolactin. Has anyone ever taken this medication? I'm thinking no, but I figured I'd ask. I've researched it because I'm always afraid of the possible psychiatric side effects of medications. It says if you've ever been psychotic you might experience more severe side effects. But that's the point of not going off Invega; the Invega does such a good job of keeping the psychosis and mania at bay that I don't want to take the chance of going off of it. So maybe the Invega will cap any symptoms I might get from the bromocriptine?

I mean I'm going to try it no matter what. If it ****s with me I'll just stop taking it and deal with the raised prolactin. The worst part of the prolactin is my body thinks I'm pregnant, so I've gained about fifty pounds. Part of that is definitely poor diet but not all of it because I eat 1500 calories a day six days a week and have a cheat day on Saturday. I should be able to at least maintain my weight if not slowly lose but I just keep gaining. And I've realized that the weight gain started the first time my period disappeared, last November.

Bromocriptine MIGHT help me lose some of the weight. I don't expect I'll ever be back down to my pre-Invega weight but even if I could just lose 20 pounds I'd be happy. But I can't expect that to happen either because I don't want to be disappointed if it doesn't happen.

So, has anyone ever heard of it or taken it?
