Talk to your doctor about how the medication affects you. It often takes more than one try to find what's right for any particular person, and they don't know if it's working or not until you tell them. Buspar is a slow-acting medication, and it might take a while before you notice benefits from it. It might help to prevent panic attacks, but it won't do much for you when you are having one.
Some doctors automatically write a prescription because that's what they are used to doing, when counseling might help you more. If you are not in therapy, you could ask about trying that, either along with or instead of the meds.
