Buspar is usually prescribed for anxiety. It is not really used as an anti-depressant, but can be used in conjunction with an SSRI-type AD to give them a little boost. Since your main complaint is anxiety and not depression, that is probably why you were given Buspar. Buspar can be pretty fast acting. Beware! My first few days on it I almost went nuts. After week 1, I settled down on it. I liked it for the first month, but after that, it stopped working for me. I kept on it for a total of 3 months, then finally quit since it had no effect. During the first month it did not help me with anxiety, but acted as kind of an upper/stimulant. I liked that, and was sorry when it stopped working. Keep in close touch with your doc about what you are experiencing on Buspar. The effects are very diverse.
