I have been a Paramedic and Firefighter over 30 years, and have dealt with a lot of bad situations over the years. My latest is really bothering me.
A call goes out for a structure fire a little before noon, but they don't send EMS (me)...9 minutes later they say they cant confirm the home is empty and request EMS. As we are pulling up the radio goes nuts wanting us emergent at the house that's almost impossible to get to due to all the other apparatus that's pulled in...Call several times on the radio to try and get info on what's happened and get nothing......5 minutes later we get to the house and find the fire fighters doing CPR on a woman mid 50s that was found just 6 foot from the front door, 21 minutes after the 1st dispatch for the fire. After intubating and drugs we get back a pulse....just for a couple minutes...and then continue to do CPR and meds and everything we could think of for next 30 minutes as we took her to a trauma center.....when we arrived she still had an electric activity but no pulse....and helped the ER work her for another 20 minutes....When the Dr said stop I felt like I and our system had failed her...
What to do now????
