Wellbutrin XL is the only drug that can pull me out of bed when I'm depressed. I was literally sleeping about 14 hours a day with zero energy until I started that drug! (after tring a few other ones first.) Energy and motivation, yes. And I don't think it ever "wore off" for me, I just got used to having lots of energy-- until I stopped taking it, and holy **** did I get tired and lethargic and achy and a whole bunch of other symptoms that I had before.
It does make me a little more irritable and short-tempered though, because it acts on the same neurotransmitters that affect anger and hostility. Combined with the right dose of Zoloft though, I am pretty mellow. The only thing about SSRI's that I don't like, is that they generally mellow me out too much, to the point where I don't feel anything. I lose my creativity, my edge. But every time I have *stopped* taking an SSRI, I've flown into a hypomania, which is typically the opposite of most people with bipolar. I also LOSE weight on SSRI's, whereas most people gain. So basically... YMMV.
Good luck on the Wellbutrin! Hope it continues to work for you.
