Do either of you suffer from anxiety? If so, see if you can get your doc to prescribe a trial of Buspar. It's a relatively benign anti-anxiety med that is not sedating (like the benzos) and for some people, it enhances their sense of smell! Also, taste. It might be fun to try for a month or so--you might get a real charge out of it if it enhances your sense of smell. It had that effect for me, and I loved it! I have regular sensitivity to smells and tastes, but with Buspar, I felt like I had the sense of smell of a dog! I could detect 20 different or more scents at a time. Walking through a field or garden was incredible. To a lesser extent, my sense of taste was also enhanced. I tasted things I'd never tasted before. For example, I could taste the difference between the little seeds in a strawberry and the pulp--two very distinct tastes.
