Why are people prescribed antidepressants for all kinds of mental 'disorders'?

Because when the only tool you have is a hammer, every thing looks like a nail.

Doctors dish out pills because the patient expects them to 'do something'. The doctor hopes no harm will come from the pills, but also hopes for at least a placebo effect.
