If you have a decent consignment store nearby I would recommend going there...two year olds don't need a lot of things to be happy, some type of age appropriate building blocks or very large legos, toys that can be pulled along behind them, a baby doll for a girl ( I know that sounds sexist but I had boys, they had no interest whatsoever in dolls ), they are happy with stackable things, which could even be tupperware bowls and your pots and pans and a wooden spoon. Take walks in the yard or around the block and talk about what you see, sing songs with them and believe it or not, my 5month old grandson loves to watch Elmo's world on youtube on my phone! I imagine your little friend would like that as well or some nick Jr shows on tv.

I hope this helps and I agree, the dollar store has a few things for older children but I would be wary of things made in China for what LauraBeth has said. I think I got my son's dinosaurs or army men, that's pretty much it.
Thanks for this!
