I think it's safe to assume the original poster knows what they are talking about on the subject they are posting on.

As I did not grow up in the Roman Catholic Church I do not know it's norms.

The root of the Church is quite knowledgeable about psychological problems, I have many theological texts that explicitly address them as well as other clergy friends who work in mental health. My first priest was also a counselor, for example, he had an academic education in psychology.
