You can't control what he does. If he wants to wait, even though you told him not to, that really is his choice (for better or worse).
However, it sounds like the knowledge that he is waiting is something that weighs on you. Maybe you tell yourself that you should be healing faster, that you should not be panicky, so as to not keep him waiting?

So it sounds like what you are getting from him (whether or not he intends to convey this) is not so much "I will wait for you" but more like "What's taking so long?".
