One was Poe's raven, which had a giant beaked head (heh, vision was limited and had to drink with a straw) and wingspan longer than arms thanks to hidden dowels I could grab. It had "feathers" of black taffetta interspersed with deep blue (you know, like how the black of feathers aren't just black when light hits it) and black leggings with a stripe of yellow running down (to make optical illusion because bird legs are significantly skinnier than mine, lol!), finished off with fabric "bird feet" that attached over the tops of my shoes. As a prop, there was a "book" made out of cardboard, all fancied up antique style that said "The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe". (It was my "purse" for money and ID, as one had to go to judges at a number of bars that tallied for final rankings -- only got 3rd place for that one. I don't remember having to take the headgear off with ID, oddly enough.)
A later year, for my BF, it was the Mad Hatter, Tim Burton style. The lot of it, head to toe. ..The face makeup and wig, the thread spooled "sash", "weathered" and laced-back coat (thanks to Goodwill, scissors, paint and cording), striped socks and the hat, complete with the decorative sticks in band (one being 10/6). Oh lord, the hat! Drove me to my psychological knees! It was the curve of it that made it so hard. He wore it to work and people were keeping him from his work all day with wanting to take pictures with him, lol. But it won his workplace contest first prize, so we got a $100 gift certificate!
Though I'm pretty sure I was hypo for both, neither was the year I was big-time hypo(!)
I *have* pictures of both, but I don't know if they're anywhere but trapped in my still unfixed computer.
