I think that selfishness in and of itself stands alone. one can have selfish motivations for either. You could be selfish to have kids because you want kids to give you status and or many other reasons based on what they can do for you. But you can also NOT have kids for selfish reasons like not wanting to share your spouse with children, etc.

So I don't think there is any kind of statement on selfishness in either choice.
