I am thinking of switching Ts after 2 years. I like my T in a lot of ways but there are some things that I really don't like and I want to check out a couple of other Ts and I'm just not sure how the insurance works. I just called the insurance company and I don't have a lot of confidence in the customer service rep that I just spoke with. They tell me that my sessions are unlimited as long as my T approves them. But, if I go to see a new T (that accepts the same insurance) does she have to approve the session? Will seeing a different T trigger any type of termination notice to the first T?
I've read on here that people interview Ts before deciding to start seeing them on a regular basis...is that in person or over the phone? I'm thinking that in person would warrant an insurance claim.... And does insurance typically pay for this type of extra appointment? I'm not interested in paying out of pocket at all and according to my insurance company I should never have to pay more than my $25 co-pay.
I'm contemplating talking to my current T about this but am not sure if that is advisable or not. I worry that she'll say, "If you're not happy then fine, go see someone else!" and I don't want to be dropped like that. I just don't want to mess up what I have with my current T since I know that the grass is always greener on the other side and I might really have the best T for me currently.
Would love any opinions and info that anyone can share. Thanks in advance.
BTW, I"m in the US and have BCBS if that helps.
