I have a video surveillance system running where I live. I review footage often and I am always surprised by my behavior on video. For example I just watched the clip of me going to the mailbox. I know my situational awareness is very high, and I am always hyper vigilant. What I often forget is what I look like while being that way.
To watch the video it looks like my mailbox is deep within enemy territory, and I'm a secret agent on a mission to retrieve assets. I look in all directions as I walk and stop occasionally to employ the thousand yard stare while analyzing a potential weakness in the visual perimeter, or determining if someone is in a parked vehicle that doesn't belong a block away.
I wonder if normal people pick up on this and what they think of it? What must my neighbors think if they have peered through their curtains and seen my behavior.
I have this active scanning while driving, often speeding up and slowing down, and making unplanned turns and doubling back to verify vehicles behind me. I do it in stores too, often circling back if I see suspicious people or setting walking traps where they will realize they are busted.
Does anyone else do this and have you seen yourself doing it and been surprised by the extent?
