I'm glad you had a good experience and shared it. The worst experiences I've ever had have been when I was on a regular floor and they didn't know how to deal with my meds. Once I was post-op from gyn surgery and they basically ignored everything I said or asked for and didn't give my meds right. That was nothing compared to the time I had lithium toxicity and the general med floors were full so I was admitted to GI. They cut my meds in half, refused to listen to me about why I NEEDED those meds (including the pdoc on call); the pdoc on call walked on while I was still talking rather than address my questions and I wound up yelling at the floor doctor on the phone at 2 AM because I had gotten manic from lack of Seroquel (and lithium but cutting that one was necessary) and I was ready to sign out AMA but couldn't because I couldn't drive with the drugs they did give me in my system. The nurses and floor doctor freely admitted they had no idea how to care for me and a lot of errors were made because they were afraid. It was horrible. I've since had 2 good post-op experiences but am afraid of regular hospital stays. IP for psych has never been trauamtic.
