I did not have a great social life in high school. I was in a very rural area so we were very spread out. I read a lot of novels of all types which helped me. It might help you too. I found some of my closest friends and improved many of my skills by joining the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC--I joined the military) in college. I loved many of the challenges and the "esprit de corps". During my time in AFROTC and on active duty, I had many great mentors. I found them in non-military jobs too. And of course my spouse has helped me through a lot of tough spots as well. A good mentor helps you see all the ways in which you are worthwhile and encourages you to achieve more.
I hope you find someone encouraging in your future. One of the best ways to find them is by starting a job. Please don't give up. Like Só leigheas said, you are at an awkward age where you are still finding yourself.
