I have a coworker that sometimes drives me to work once a week. She offered to do it which is nice but I would like to give her gas money. She doesn't go.out of her way to get me since my house is on her way to work and it is a 10 minute drive. If anything, I am inconviencing myself since going with her means I am the one who has to ger up earlier than neccessary and get there super early.
I don't mind though since I am an early bird. I just want to give her gas money so she doesn't feel used. I know how it works. The reason with this is due to past experiences. I know she says she is okay with it now but eventually she will get tired of it and may start getting mad. It has happened in the past with other people.
I have been on both ends, although I am the one usually getting annoyed with always giving without reciprication so I know how it feels to feel used. So in order for her to not get mad, I want to give her gas money beforehand. I want to be proactive. So how much do you think is appropriate? I was thinking around 10 dollars since it is not all the time and not a far trip.
Should I still offer more money or is 10 dollars appropriate? What do you guys think? How much do you give people gas money? I don't drive and sometimes I need one from someone outside my family. How do you decide how much to pay?
