Here are two ideas that can be used in public:

1. Three Breaths: take three deliberate breaths, with long exhales. Then notice (without judging) how you are feeling.

2. "STOP" technique: S = Stop; T = take a breath; O = observe; P = proceed. Here is two-minute video about it:
