I had to be sedated like that once when I had mania combined with severe akathesia. It was so frustrating to know that I should be completely unconscious and instead I was drugged and awake. Eventually I wound up IP and was given a big dose of gabapentin and cogentin on top of keeping a high dose of one of the 2 or 3 APs and benzos plus antihistamines (we also figured out that the benadryl I'd been given all along made me more manic so that was stopped). I was IP for I think 5 days before it really helped and during that time I was unable to sit still for groups or anything. I paced so much that I know how many steps it takes to walk the entire unit (168) and the nurses kept getting me things to do out of the craft cabinet. I finally was put on 1:1 for a day and then they really ramped up the gabapentin dose (and the Seroquel?? it would have been high already but maybe it went higher) and I finally made it to a group without standing in the back bouncing on my toes.

I completely annoyed everyone in there with me that time (10 bed unit so you can't get away from ridiculously manic, hyperactive, can't shut up woman). Then they all went home and probably never want to risk going back and running into me.
