hi everyone. i first should preface this by saying that i have never been hospitalized before and am just looking to learn more.

first question. it is commonly said that hospitalization and other intensive treatments are used when the patient is potentially going to harm themselves or others. because that doesn't explicitly state suicide or murder, i was wondering what that actually means.

second question. additionally, to warrant intensive treatments like hospitalization, it's stated that it's necessary when the patient has plans for suicide. what does that mean? is it just knowing how you would kill yourseld? or is it having an exact date and have everything planned out?

thanks to anyone who answers!
